According to the Law on Conformity Assessment, certification means a checking activity in result of which a certificate or a declaration is issued on the conformity of the product, services, management systems or person to the defined legislative or normative requirements.

Certification could be obligatory or voluntarily.

The objects of voluntary certification are:

· product,

· services,

· quality and environmental management systems,

· persons.

In result of voluntary certification, a Certificate of Conformity is issued.

Obligatory certification is carried out by certification and declaration according to legislatively defined certification schemes.

Certification schemes are used at obligatory attestation and there are identification marks specified by the Government degree.

Objects of the obligatory certification are products and services the list of which is specified by the Government decision N 976-N, from 28 august, 2008.

The schemes of obligatory certification are indentified by technical regulations of products (services).

Declarations and certificates have the same legal status regardless of certification schemes.

Period of validation on certificate must not exceed three years. The certification body defines the validity period of certificate obtained voluntarily. For obligatory certification, the validity period is defined according to the requirements of appropriate technical regulation.
