The relations between the Republic of Armenia and the European Union, including the trade and economic cooperation are regulated by the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) .
The European Union and Armenia signed an Agreement on Partnership and Co-operation (PCA) ) which entered into force on 1 July of 1999. The signing of this agreement started a new era for EU-Armenia relations. The agreement was the desire of both sides to establish closer relations and legal basis for a strong and comprehensive political and economic partnership.
The principal targets for PCA are:
• to provide EU-Armenia cooperation by developing political relations,
• to provide the respect of democratic principles, the rule of law, human rights and the transition to a market economy,
• to provide trade relations between the sides as well as legal, social, economic, financial, scientific, civil and cultural relationship and partnership.
